FAQ

Psychiatrists are physicians that have specific training in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental illnesses. They have a degree in medicine (MD) and as such can prescribe medications. Psychologists and licensed counselors have specific training in conducting psychotherapy and administering psychological tests, but they are not able to prescribe medications.

Please contact us at 940-448-0304 as soon as possible. We understand traffic delays and emergencies happen and we will do our best to accommodate you. Please understand that such accommodations may include rescheduling your appointment if more than 5 minutes late if the doctor’s schedule for the rest of the day is full. Because we highly value your time, if you show up late for your appointment you’ll only be seen for the remainder of the time left on your appointment. This will prevent the doctor from running behind on the schedule and taking time away from the patients that are scheduled after you. The payment fee is due for the scheduled appointment.

Cancellation of appointments must be made with 24 business hours advance notice. Saturdays and Sundays are not considered business hours. If you have to cancel your appointment within 24 hours or don’t show up to the appointment, there is a cancellation/no show fee. These fees are not billable to your insurance company and need to be paid prior to your next visit.

As a courtesy to our patients, we make every attempt to contact you prior to your appointment to remind you of your upcoming visit. However, you will still be responsible for your appointment/fees if we are not able to reach you during our reminder call/email.

Please ask your pharmacy to send an electronic refill request. This is the easiest and fastest way to get your medications and it should be your first call. Please allow 48 business hours for medication refills that are requested during regular office hours. Refills will not be answered on weekends or holidays. Because we understand how important it is to avoid stopping your medications abruptly, we recommend keeping a close eye on your medications and requesting your refills in a timely manner.

Refills requested after regular business hours, on weekends or holidays will be promptly answered on the next business day.

Unfortunately, the doctor will not be able to refill medications for patients that have not been seen for an evaluation.

The doctor is only able to refill the psychiatric medications that she is managing for you.

The doctor currently accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO.We only accept PPO plans, and private pay at this time. We would be considered an out of network provider for insurance plans other than Blue Cross Blue Shield. It would be helpful to check with your insurance company prior to scheduling an appointment to confirm that the reimbursement amount will be acceptable to you. Contact the “members” number located on the back of your insurance card for additional information. It is important for all Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) members to verify with their insurance whether their Mental Health Benefits are managed by BCBS or a different carrier. This information is not readily available to our staff. Since Dr. Aponte is only in network with BCBS, any mental health services sub-contracted out to another insurance carrier will be considered out of network and will need to be paid in full.

Dr. Aponte is not a Medicare or Medicaid provider.

We accept cash and checks. Credit cards are accepted for payments over $150. Some FSA cards are not compatible with our credit card system. We recommend having an alternate form of payment just in case. We will supply you with a detailed receipt that can be submitted to your FSA for reimbursement. You can also pay online using the link on this page.
