A new Act has been passed and will be going into effect January 1st, 2022. Please check if the Act applies to your insurance plan as it could fluctuate with billing. The No Suprise Act aims to protect consumers from at least one contributor to the problem: unexpected bills for out-of-network care in emergency and non-emergency settings. This law was passed to help protect consumers from excessive out-of-pocket healthcare costs and surprise medical billing. By implementing better price transparency and consumer protection, the new regulations will help to better consumer experiences by helping patients and clients with greater access to healthcare cost information. Patients and clients will only be liable for their in-network cost amount and this Act will protect them from gaps in coverage for emergency services and certain services that are provided by an out-of-network clinician working at an in-network facility. Meaning, it will make it illegal for healthcare providers to bill patients for more than the in-network cost-sharing due under that patients’ insurance(s) in most all scenarios where surprise out-of-network bills arise; for example, State plans, the Act will require both the provider and health plans to help patients access healthcare pricing information and will provide you with the tool to get better price estimates. In the end, the No Suprise Act goal is to increase healthcare cost knowledge and to help with fewer unexpected bills for patients and clients, For more information or questions please reach out to TX Department of Insurance at (800)252-3439, or www.tdi.texas.gov
